While Racing for a Cause – Breast Health – at the Outlaw World Finals

Charlotte, NC – Dave Gravel of DDR Motorsports wants the racing community to “Feel the Curves” as he takes to the track sporting that message on the new sprint car named “Earl E. Detector” at the World of Outlaw World Finals at the Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend, November 1-3.
“Earl E. Detector,” a black and pink, 900 horsepower, lightweight (1375 lbs.) sprint car, #89G, driven by celebrated racer Dave Gravel will carry the Beyond Boobs! logo while racing to motivate men to encourage, even help, women to take the steps for early detection of breast cancer.
“Having been very personally touched by this disease, we want to use our sprint car hailed as ‘Earl E. Detector’ to get the attention of men in the racing community,” says Gravel.  “We want to drive home the fact that men, because they don’t fear this disease as women do, can play an instrumental role as ‘Early Detector Inspectors” of breast cancer for the special ladies in their lives.”
By entering Earl E. Detector in the race, DDR Motorsports’ owner Ray Cappella is showing his commitment to
Beyond Boobs! - a breast health organization started by a group of young survivors dedicated to saving  lives through prevention information. “For me racing is my ‘fun’ business and a privilege,” says Cappella.  “And now to use this exciting sport to support a great cause like early detection of breast cancer makes it all the more fulfilling for me,” he added.
Today, the United States has the highest breast cancer rate in the world and a woman here has a 1 in 8 chance of developing this disease during her lifetime. Statistics show that men find a small, but significant, percentage of lumps before they become evident to the women.
“There is no cause more important to my heart than early detection of breast cancer, when it is most treatable,” says driver Gravel. “Both sides of my family have suffered and lost lives from this disease. I want to do all I can to get the word out to both men and women that early detection does save lives.”
No doubt all eyes will be on Dave Gravel, returning winner of the 2011 Dirt World Finals as he competes in this year’s three-day World Finals in Charlotte. In early October, Gravel raced with the World of Outlaws at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in New York, finishing fifth in that 25-lap event. In a limited number of starts with the series in 2012, he has recorded 10 Top-10 finishes, of which eight have been top-five performances.

Beyond Boobs!, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to saving and healing lives by providing breast health education for all and support for young women diagnosed with breast cancer. Based in Williamsburg, Beyond Boobs! serves women in Richmond, Virginia Beach, and the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and in Moyock, North Carolina.
